Not only is the martyr-saint depicted in these implied movements, unusual positions as if he were trying to avoid the pain or the incoming arrows, there are paintings in which he appears to be dancing in pain or, possibly, delight--e.g. Domenico Zampieri (called il Domenichino) (1627) (See: Figure 115), Johann Bockhorst (1630) (See: Figure 116), Carlo Bonone (b. 1632) (See: Figure 46), and Giuseppi Caletti (a. 1630) (See: Figure 117) among others. Were these representations of a Dance Sacrée or a dance of death, a Totentanz?
